Back on campus after 15 years.
Felt a bit cougar-ish when a couple of collegiate boys turned their heads when I passed on by. Which quickly disappeared as soon as I walked into a room full of academe girls. . . . Who looked directly at me as if I had willfully and spontaneously birthed three mutant heads out my left ear as I killed the czar and his ministers.
Mind you, I was stylishly wearing my stilettos. I mean, I do have charming toes.
Geesh.

The stilettos are back! Watch your step! Those places are full of dangerous stairs and slippery floors!
chief rock chef: these things are true. Though, the stilettos cannot come out for long - my job entails flat feet!
Back on campus? For why? What have I missed?
Ian: I am now working at the university up the road from us (the husband's alma mater) in the Campus Recreation Center as a massage therapist.
You know what's cool? The college kids have a "send home" program, where they can send the CHARGES home to the parents for them to pay the bill! Ha! (my parents would have had a quick "stern sit down" with me had they had THAT sort of program in my day) They can do this for food, coffee, massages, camping, equipment, etc. Amazing, eh?
Wow. That's awesome. Why didn't I know this by now? Did I miss a blog entry or were you keeping it quiet?
Yeah. Cool. I think. One of the finest universities in the state of Texas is now producing students whose solution to all problems is to ask Mommy or Daddy to pay for it. This can only be a good thing for those of us already prepared for the real world.
Yay! I can totally picture you in your stilettos on campus. I love it!
Congrats on the new job!
I get the same looks when I go Christmas shopping for my niece in one of those teen stores. I hope they all get wrinkles early :)
congrats, chica!!!
you don't do massages in stilettos, do you????
silly college kids....
geez...I sound old.
I love a woman with three mutant heads in stilettos! HOT STUFF!
Congrats on the new job!
Ian: no, you didn't miss any blog entry. Though I did post it on my Facebook page - btw - the husband joined that yesterday!
You bring up a good point - I thought it was always like that "solution = mom and dad PAY for this" or "mom and dad FIX this for me"! I've read many, many business articles on this very same situation(s). Employers are having a hard time with the employees PARENTS as well as the values/ethics/morals instilled into these employees. Some parents are even calling for raises, for sick days and/or even asking for raises.
This amazes me. But at least it gives us old fashioned farts a leg up in the world!
ETK: probably not the wisest, but oh so worth it! Thanks!
Suze: girls are mean. They NEVER stop being mean. Start 'em young and keep 'em going . . . .
Alli: um. No. No stilettoed massages. That would hurt me and then I'd have to hurt someone else, b/c they'd be ignorant and think I'd be offering something I don't offer. I was going to a new employee meeting and any chance I get now to wear my fab shoes, I'm going to!
The weird thing is is they ARE kids! They look entirely too young to be in college!
RLL: You SO know how to make my day! ! !
Working at a U now makes me feel old and creepy. Some of those little boys are hot!
I mean at worst they're only 15 years younger right...?
xo
Princess: you SO get me!
You're definitely braver than me. Congrats. I don't think I'll ever go back to school. For anything. There are times when I wonder if I'll regret my decision not to get a master's though, and if I ever do regret it, maybe I'll think about going back to get it. But for now . . . no way!!
Em
Rewarding to know you can turn the heads and evoke that "Who does she think she is" mentality from the college chickies.
Em: well, me being back on campus is not due to me taking more collegiate classes. I work there now. It's still very odd to me - young punks and not-it-alls. I'm amazed by their attitudes, but just chuckle it off.
I might go back for another degree some day. . . I've been thinking of kinesiology myself.
GMan: I'm not sure if it's a reward per say. . .
You are working on campus? I didn't know that. I thought you were going to be a big fancy massage chick now! I'm confused.
Em
Em: I work as a massage therapist at the Campus Recreation Center. I had new employee training on campus the other day where I wore my stilettos.
Sorry to confuse you.
You just crack me !up!! Seriously.
So do any of the 'grownups' need your skills??
